Real Madrid’s defeat in the final of the Copa del Rey sealed Carlo Ancelotti’s time at the club and all signs point to him leaving at the end of the season.

The Merengues are looking for a replacement and have the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Xabi Alonso on their wishlist. The latter is said to be the favourite but there is room for a surprise turnaround should Klopp be open to talks as well.

For Ancelotti, meanwhile, the coach is expected to take a hiatus from management in club football with many even claiming that Real Madrid may be the final club he coached. He is, however, open to managing a national team.

Brazil’s dream come true

It is no secret that the Brazilian federation have been chasing Ancelotti for a long time now. With the manager set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, his appointment as the next manager of the Selecao now looks more likely than ever.

As revealed by Fabrizio Romano in a recent report, Brazil expect Ancelotti to be ready to take over as Brazil’s coach in June. He will, after all, complete the league campaign with Los Blancos.

To make sure the Italian tactician arrives, the CBF are willing to offer Ancelotti a record salary as part of his contract and will thus make him the highest-paid manager of the Brazilian national team ever.

Earlier this month, word had it that they even may match the wages he is paid at Real Madrid currently. Considering the massive gap in wages between coaches who serve at clubs and national teams, that came as a statement of their desperation.

The Brazilian national team have been far from their best for a while now and the board hope Ancelotti can help them re-establish themselves as one of the best in the world in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

With Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Endrick and Eder Militao all regulars with the Selecao, Ancelotti will have many familiar faces should he finalise his move.

Antonio Rudiger couldn’t hold back his emotions and tried to go on the offensive against the referees in the Copa del Rey final.

Close to the final whistle, Rudiger was seen frustrated with the referees and even tried to throw ice packs at them. This incident led many to believe that he could face a lengthy suspension from the Spanish FA.

German footballing legends call for harsh punishment

Rudiger’s actions haven’t gone unnoticed in his native Germany either, with some of the country’s footballing legends now calling for harsh punishments against the defender.

“He went crazy, he was no longer in control,” Lothar Matthaus said in a recent interaction with Sky90 (h/t AS).

“He’s a German international, he should be an example. Yesterday he forgot all that,” the legendary midfielder added.

Matthaus went on to call for a harsher ban on Rudiger, adding, “If he walks away with a four-week suspension, he can be satisfied. I’m more thinking of a double-digit ban. I expect a massive ban. Besides, he was on probation.”

Matthaus’ statements were echoed by another German footballer, Dietmar Hamann, who urged the German footballing federation to intervene and suspend him from the national team.

“The federation must immediately suspend Rudiger from the national team,” said the former Bayern Munich and Liverpool star.

These statements indicate just the kind of trouble Rudiger is in at the moment. In the worst case scenario, the German could face a ban of up to 12 matches, while it will be interesting to see if the German national team take any action as well.

Rudiger, for his part, reportedly wants to utilise this time to work on his fitness and even undergo a knee surgery, having suffered from fitness woes throughout the season so far.
